Over $100,000 was raised to support the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation, which assists local families who have a child suffering from leukemia or cancer, during the Wine Tasting events held February 15th and 16th, 2007. More than 700 patrons enjoyed the third annual Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Wine Tasting Gala on February 16th at the Aetna Building. The gala was preceded on Thursday, February 15th by a Wine Makers Dinner for 100 guests at River City Brewing Company. Wine Maker and President of Markham Vineyards in Napa Valley, Bryan Del Bondio, presented a selection of specialty wines, perfectly accompanied by a five course intimate meal.
The Wine Tasting Gala featured an exceptional collection of top vineyards pouring over 100 special selections, food tastings provided by 25 local favorite restaurants, live music, a silent auction and celebrity guests. Tracy and Michelle Pinson, parents of a daughter with cancer took the microphone to share their story, which served as a touching reminder of the evening’s purpose.
“I am thrilled to be here in Jacksonville and to see the community rally together like a team to support these children in need” said Jay Fund President Tom Coughlin, “I am personally committed to assisting local children with cancer and it is tremendously heartwarming to see so many join in this cause.”
About The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation: The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation was created in honor of Jay McGillis, a special young man who played football at Boston College under Coughlin. McGillis died of leukemia at the age of 21. Through exceptional adversity and ultimate tragedy brought about by this fatal illness, Jay and his family set an example of courage and dignity that would forever leave its mark on those who knew him. More than $1.5 million dollars has been contributed by the Jay Fund to local Jacksonville families fighting the battle against childhood cancer.
The mission of the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation is to assist children with leukemia and other cancers and their families by providing emotional and financial support to help reduce the stress associated with treatment and improve their quality of life.
